The Kostner Shelter is situated in the heart of the Dolomites and more precisely in the Sella Group.
It stands on a natural rock balcony at 2550 Meters above sea level, and the sight you can enjoy from there is really incomparable : in front of you there are some of the most famous Dolomites’ peaks like :
- Marmolada,
- Civetta,
- Pelmo,
- Antelao,
- Sorapiss,
- Tofane,
- Conturines,
- Lavarella,
- Santa Croce and northwards the Zillertaler Alps.
The sun wakes us early in the morning (we are on the eastern side) and gilds with its light the mountain walls behind us, which are nearly 3000 meters high: Sasso delle Nove, Sasso delle Dieci and Piz da Lech.
The Kostner Shelter can be reached in about 2 hours from the Passo Campolongo, walking along the path No. 638.
The faster and easyer way is from Corvara, with the BOÈ cablecar and the VALLON chairlift, both opened during the summertime. You can reach to the Kostner Shelter starting also from Arabba, in about 2 hours, across the Passo Pordoi in about 3 hours as well as across the Passo Sella and Passo Gardena (one-day excursion).
